Chairs: Beautiful Bends

Sponsored Links
By Rosemary Thornton, contributing editor
Originally designed and built in New York City in the 1700s by chairwright Ebenezer Tracy, a few original examples of American Windsor Continuous Arm chairs still survive.

Then and now, craftsmen use steam to bend the one-piece back and arms into a curved bow. Choose from the baluster legs shown here (with intricate turnings) or the simpler bamboo style legs.

Optional extras are wider seat and taller back, handcarved knuckles and/or crest, and distressed finished.
